your eyes were brown long before this
out of the blue sky came a downpour of false clarity
it washed onto you
like bodies onto shores
and the people standing at the edge
tried to send the waves far back enough to send out life boats,
but couldn’t save you
that was not the only way

eyes are meant to detect light
there was something wrong with your eyes -
maybe they couldn’t find the lightswitch
or maybe the light and mistook lucidity were too bright
maybe they blinded you

following you on the freeway to someplace,
i didn’t know how to get there,
and i couldn’t keep up.
the road was one continuous bend
and your brake lights were perpetually just out of sight
like the last bits of food on a plate
that you’re too full to eat.

i can’t move fast enough
or maybe i speed too often
and i worry that if i finally catch up to you,
we’ll be some awful carwreck,
a hideous patchwork quilt of each other’s parts.

when we’re lying
side by side on the operating table,
i will scream a the surgeons
to put us back together seperate
to sew my heart into my own chest cavity.

i don’t want you to give me your heart,
you are beating machine
and i do not have a hole in mine
to fit yours inside of.

if there was supposed to be space for it,
we would have evolved that way,
with holes in our hearts
big enough to fit more inside,
but we didn’t.

This is what radioactive smoke tastes like.  I think my lungs have burns.

see how a miner can forget about his veins of gold?
and how the ground smiles so hungrily at our bones?

owen pallet, the miner becomes forgetful

Never was a tale of more woeThan this of R2 and his 3PO
It’s been just over a year since I started this and it’s finally complete.  And of course I finished yesterday - 25 May, Star Wars Day, as a friend so helpfully pointed out.  How fitting.
